November 9 - The November 2 elections for Congress have come and gone in the United States, and the new reality is that the House may be back in the hands of the Republicans.
Add to that the fact that we are nearing the end of the year, and there is growing pessimism that Barney Frank's pro-online gambling bill, HR 2267, will not pass.
The co-sponsor of the bill, Congressman John Campbell, told PND that there was an "outside chance of something happening for poker only passing in the lame duck session."
The lame duck session is the part of Congress that still meets in November and December.
He said that the odds are not good on the bill passing in this session, however.
Campbell said: "If we go into next year, we will have a different makeup in Congress and a different Chairman of that committee."
The problem, of course, is that the new chairman could very well be one of online poker and gambling's most vehement opponents, Spenser Bachus.
Nevertheless, Campbell said that everyone should remain optimistic for next year's congress if HR 2267 fails to advance this year.
"I think we have a real opportunity on this next year," he said. "There will be almost a hundred new members of Congress, so it'll be a hundred people who can have a fresh look at this."
